Red Bull Hardline has been bringing the bravest downhill and freeride athletes to the hills of Wales since 2014. The race combines racer speed, bone breaking technical sections, and XL sized jumps to create a unique hybrid between racing and freeriding.

Until last year, the event took place once per year in the home hills of the famed Atherton family. Now, there’s a Tasmanian edition of the race, whose second edition takes place this weekend. As the event builds hype for the season ahead, I’ve wondered about what role Hardline plays in the broader downhill and freeride landscape.
